What you'll find on Mill Road

A small, owner-run guesthouse rather than a chain hotel — useful when Citywest is full, when you're flying out of Dublin Airport early, or when you want a base for the Slade Valley walks and Wicklow Mountains.

Carpe Diem restaurant

The ground-floor restaurant at the guesthouse. Italian and Mediterranean. Useful to know — there's no need to leave the building for dinner if you've come in tired off the Red Line.

Saggart Village

Co. Dublin village wedged between the N7, Citywest, Rathcoole and the foothills of the Dublin Mountains. Population roughly doubled between 2011 and 2022 — still feels village-scale around Mill Road.

Why people end up staying here

Most guests fall into one of three groups: business visitors heading to Citywest Business Campus or the conference hotel, travellers using Saggart Luas as a low-cost park-and-ride into Dublin, and walkers basing themselves close to the Slade Valley, Slievethoul and Saggart Reservoir.

The Forge Guesthouse pre-dates most of the surrounding development. The village itself takes its name from the old forge — see the story page for that thread.

"If Citywest is sold out and you still need a bed within walking distance of the conference hotel, this is the obvious move — it's quieter, it's cheaper, and the restaurant on the ground floor saves you a taxi at 9pm."

Quick orientation

Mill Road sits just off the main street through Saggart Village. From the Saggart Luas terminus, a short walk down Garter Lane and right onto Mill Road brings you to the door.
