You've booked into a Citywest event months ago, the conference hotel is sold out, and the only stays the booking sites are showing you are 20 minutes east in Tallaght or back inside town. Here's what's actually within walking distance of the Citywest Hotel main entrance, with realistic times.
The honest short list
Citywest Hotel sits on its own grounds at the edge of the Citywest campus. The two genuinely walkable accommodation options are:
- Citywest Hotel itself, when there's availability.
- The Forge Guesthouse, Mill Road, Saggart Village — roughly 5 minutes on foot via Garter Lane.
That's it for genuinely walkable. Everything else in the area is a Luas stop, a bus, or a cab away.
The Forge Guesthouse — what to expect
11 deluxe en-suite rooms in a small, owner-run guesthouse on Mill Road in Saggart Village proper. Carpe Diem Italian / Mediterranean restaurant on the ground floor, useful when you've finished your event session and don't want a third meal at the conference hotel.
Trade-offs vs Citywest Hotel:
- Cheaper — small village guesthouse vs. four-star conference hotel.
- No conference machinery — no business centre, no cab rank, no event-specific desks. If you need any of that, walk back over to Citywest.
- Quieter — small village street vs. busy hotel campus.
- Smaller — 11 rooms means availability is finite. Phone first if it's an event week — (01) 458 9226.
What about a Luas stop or two further out?
If The Forge is also full, the next ring of options requires a tram ride, not a walk:
- Citywest Campus stop — one Luas stop east. Shorter walk to the business campus than to the hotel.
- Tallaght — full set of mid-range hotels, ~10 minutes east on the Luas. Adds 25–30 minutes door-to-door each way for an event day.
- Naas, Co. Kildare — ~15 minutes west on the N7 by car. Town-centre hotels, useful if you have a car and don't mind a short drive each morning.
None of these are walking distance from Citywest Hotel itself. Don't book one and then assume you'll wander back from the bar — you won't.
How to actually decide
- If Citywest Hotel has rooms at a price you're willing to pay: stay there. The integration with the conference is the point.
- If Citywest is sold out or out of budget, and you want walking distance: try The Forge Guesthouse. It's the only practical walkable answer.
- If The Forge is also full and you don't want to taxi: book Tallaght and Luas in. Don't book Naas unless you have a car.
Practical timing for an event day
If you're walking from The Forge Guesthouse on Mill Road to Citywest Hotel for an 8:30 session: leave the door at 8:20. Don't try to leave at 8:25 — it's a five-minute walk to the hotel entrance, but conference venues sprawl, so factor another 5–8 minutes inside the building to your actual room.
